Equal Opportunity

The Town of Lincoln is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants are considered solely on the basis of their qualifications as required for the positions they seek, and no discrimination is exercised because of their political or religious opinions or affiliations, or because of their race, creed, color, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status or marital status.

Human Resources Responsibility

The Personnel Department is mainly responsible for recruitment and selection, benefits compensation, employee relations, positive labor relations and contract negotiations, workers' compensation and risk management, health insurance and pension benefits, employee development and organization, health, safety and wellness programs, personnel systems management, and the maintenance and security of all personnel records.

The Personnel Department is also responsible for the advertising and hiring of new employees when job opportunities become available. The advertisements can be viewed in local newspapers as well as the Providence Journal and this website. Openings will be posted on this page when they are available.

Which newspapers does the Town use when advertising available positions?

The Town of Lincoln advertises available jobs in The Valley Breeze newspaper and frequently advertises in the Providence Journal paper. In essence, it can be either/or, depending on the type of position available. Good advice is to always check both newspapers when looking for new employment.

Are jobs posted on the web site?

Yes, check this page as any openings will be listed here.

What is meant by an "Internal Posting" of a Town position?

An Internal Posting means that only union employees who presently work for the Town may apply for the position. After the posting time has ended, a help-wanted ad is placed in the newspaper and any individual may apply for the position. This process is part of the union contract agreement.

Once the ad appears in one of the two newspapers typically used, what recruitment process does the Town follow?

The Town uses following process: Each ad has an open and close date, which is typically 7-10 days in duration. This means that an individual has a week to ten days to mail in her/his resume and cover letter. Once the ad closes, the list of all applying candidates is reviewed by the Town Administrator, Personnel Director, and Director of the Department that has the vacancy. The responsibility of the above committee is to review the credentials of all applications and decide on the number of individuals who will be asked in for an interview. These candidates are notified and a mutually convenient interview time is arranged. Once the interviews are complete, the committee selects the best-qualified candidate(s) for the position. Once all references are checked and a police background investigation has been done, plus any testing that may be necessary, the selected candidate is officially offered the position. All other applicants are notified by a regret/thank you letter.
